Overview
Sending product samples with orders is a powerful way to introduce customers to new SKUs, support promotions, or fulfill special requests. OmniPoint Order Management allows you to mark any product as a sample during the order creation process.
Instructions
Add a Sample Item
- Begin creating or editing an order as usual.
- Add the desired product to the order.
- In the Order Pad (right-hand panel), click the Sample checkbox next to the item.
- Set the quantity (typically
1
). - Click Update to apply the sample designation.
Sample Pricing
Sample items are automatically set to a price of $0.00. This allows the product to be shipped without affecting the order total or invoicing logic.
Tip: If a customer is paying for part of the item quantity and receiving one as a sample, simply add the SKU twice—once as a normal line, once as a sample line.
Fulfillment Considerations
- Sample items will appear on the packing slip with a $0 value.
- Warehouse staff can distinguish samples via the Sample label or flag.
- Shipping fees are not affected by sample items unless weight is significant.
Reporting
Samples are tracked separately in reporting for inventory and promotional accounting purposes. Be sure to label them correctly to maintain data accuracy.
Note: Sample items do still consume inventory. Ensure you have sufficient quantity on hand before marking high-volume SKUs as samples.
Use Cases
- Include new product releases with repeat customer orders.
- Send samples to retailers for buyer evaluation.
- Honor a promotional offer (e.g., “Free gift with purchase”).
If you need to apply this to a large number of orders, consider using the Import Tool with a sample flag. For help with automation or API integration, contact your implementation manager or email support@onerail.io.
