Overview
Order attributes are custom data fields attached to orders, typically imported from external platforms (like Shopify or BigCommerce) or entered manually by integrations or advanced users. They help store operational and contextual metadata not visible in the standard UI.
Use Cases for Attributes
- Passing pickup or delivery instructions (e.g., "Leave at back gate")
- Storing third-party system references (e.g., Shopify location ID)
- Tracking timestamps or workflow state flags
- Marking special processing logic (e.g., curbside pickup, internal routing)
Note: Attributes are not displayed prominently in the order UI. Instead, they appear in a separate section (usually under View Attributes) and are often used by developers, warehouse integrations, or advanced workflows.
Instructions
Where to View Attributes
To view attributes on an order:
- Open any order and scroll to the bottom panel.
- Look for the "Attributes" tab or "View Attributes" link.
- Click to view all custom fields imported with the order.
Importing and Exporting Attributes
Attributes can be updated in bulk using the Delivery Zone export/import tool from the View Orders screen:
- Filter and select relevant orders.
- Click Export > Delivery Zone.
- Update attribute columns in the CSV file.
- Re-import to apply updates.
Best Practices
- Only edit attributes via API or export/import unless directed by support.
- Do not delete unknown fields, they may drive downstream integrations.
- Document custom fields used by your team or integration partners.
