To access this page, go to Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Setting > Shipping Methods.
Note: If you don't see this option on your menu, that means that you don't have the permissions to view it. You'll need to get an Admin User within your company to help you with this step. For more information about user levels, take a look at our Users guide.
For more information on shipping methods, please see our video series on shipping settings.
Note: This guide assumes that you already have set up your shipping integrations. (e.g. Fedex, UPS, USPS) Adding a shipping method does not create a shipping integration for functions like Get Rates. To start a new integration, please contact support@orderbot.com to initiate a project.
Editing a Shipping Method
Click the edit icon next to your shipping method. This will bring up several text fields for you to edit.
-
Shipping Method - This is the standardized name of your method. Usually, you'll want to use the name specified by your carrier. Example: Fedex Standard_Overnight. Use underscores instead of spaces.
-
DTC Naming - This is the name for the method that you would like to appear on your website, if you have one. Customers will see this on the checkout.
-
Code - This is for standardized ship codes. Usually, you will get a list of these from your warehouse or trading partners. This code allows their systems to recognize this ship method when you export orders. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to add multiple codes to a single method, please email support@orderbot.com to have your extra codes added to a list of exceptions.
-
Maximum Weight - The max weight you would like to allow for this shipping method.
-
Default Rates - This is for a new feature. Please disregard for now.
-
Default Shipdays - This controls the default shipdate of your orders. For example, if you set the default shipdate as 2, then the shipdate on your orders will be 2 business days after the order date. Set to 0 for same-day shipping.
-
Available - Select if this method will be available on the frontend (your website), the backend (Orderbot), or both.
-
International Available - Select if this method will be available for international or domestic shipping addresses.
Once you're done entering your settings, click Submit ().
Note: You cannot add new shipping methods on your own, though you can edit them. If you would like to add a new shipping method, please email support@orderbot.com. We'll add a blank placeholder shipping method that you can edit however you like.
Setting a Default Shipping Method
On the left-hand side, next to each of your shipping methods, you'll see a list of numbers. These indicate the order of your ship methods.
The shipping method that you have in the top space for each carrier (e.g. Fedex) will be the default method. This means it'll be selected by default on dropdown menus.
To change the order of your methods, just click on the number next to that method, then drag and drop. This will change the order of the methods on your orderpad.
You can also drag and drop the carriers themselves–so if you have a Fedex method as the default and would like to use USPS instead, just drag USPS to the drop of the list.
Activating and Deactivating a Shipping Method
There are two places where a shipping method must be activated and deactivated.
- The method itself may be activated or deactivated by clicking the checkmark or X symbol on the left-hand side of the method. This controls whether or not the method will be available for all distribution centres.
- The method may also be activated or deactivated under each distribution centre individually. Click the checkmark or X under each distribution centre you intend to use. In our example image above, Fedex Ground is active for all warehouse except inactive for Store 1.
If you have no active methods for a distribution center, it will not show up on shipping tab dropdown menu.
