Creating a new warehouse involves several steps:
-
Creating the warehouse itself
-
Activating Shipping Methods
-
Creating Shipping Charges
-
Reassigning shipping charges under shipping destinations
If you're using Orderbot the first time, there will be a filler warehouse called 'your warehouse' created by default. If you only intend to use one warehouse, you can start at 'Editing an Existing Distribution Center' below. After that, you can jump straight to setting up your shipping methods! Please also see our section on the steps to follow after creating a distribution center, though.
Editing an Existing Distribution Center
- Go to Prefs > System Setup > Shipping & Tax Settings
- Click the Edit icon. (See the screenshot below.)
- Make your changes. When you've finished, click Submit to save.
Adding a New Distribution Center
- Go to Prefs > System Setup > Shipping & Tax Settings.
- Under Distribution center tab, click Add Distribution center. You will see empty fields where you can enter your distribution center information.
- Fill in the required information (name, address, phone, etc).
- Select which Country you will use this warehouse for. (You can also select all.) This activates your new warehouse under your Shipping Destinations.
'Active DC for Country' will only appear when you're first creating a warehouse, but don't worry if there are more countries you would like to activate this warehouse for later. If you'd like to do that, you can just go to Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Settings > Shipping Destinations.
- Click the Submit button. Now jump to the next steps below. You still have a couple pages to visit before you're ready to use this distribution center!
Next Steps after Creating a New Distribution Center
Shipping Methods:
Menu: Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Settings > Shipping Method
You will need to activate at least one shipping method for this warehouse–otherwise, the dropdown menu will be empty when you go to place orders. If you intend to use this distribution centre for international orders, double-check that your method is set to 'international' or 'all' rather than domestic.
Shipping Charges
Menu: Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Settings > Shipping Charge
Add a Shipping Charge for your new warehouse for each sales channel that you intend to use. (For example, if you have both Wholesale and Direct to Consumer orders in the system, you will need to complete a shipping charge for both channels for each warehouse that you add.)
Shipping Destinations
Menu: Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Settings > Shipping Destinations
Activate your new warehouse under each country that you would like to ship orders to. You will also want to assign the shipping charges you created if you have multiple per warehouse. Note that if you just created this warehouse, you will have already activated it for some or all countries in step 4 of distribution center setup.
Tax Rates
Prefs > System Setup > Shipping and Tax Settings > Tax Per DC
If you would like to set up tax rates for your new warehouse, visit this page for more information. This step is optional if you don't ship to only to places that do not apply tax on your orders.
Inventory
If you would like to add inventory for products under this warehouse, check out our Inventory Management guide. Please all see our guide on exporting and importing inventory from a CSV file.
